You can get a free subdomain here to use as dynamic DNS to self-host your stuff at home. The only condition is to have an account on the Fediverse and not be an asshole. If you are then your instance admin will ban you and this will cause the subdomain here to disappear together with your creation/validation post.
This is why this system will ultimately be reserved for pre-approved small mastodon / fediverse instances. There is no such limitation yet. Let's be honest if you are here you very probably already are on such instance and may even follow me there.
A simple message will get you a subdomain pointing to where you want
If you wish to get a subdomain like example.n4no.org you just need to be the first to message the DNS registration bot here like this:@dns@m.n4no.org https://example.n4no.org 15.235.49.203 2607:5300:205:300::1b33
Details:
- Use one line per element
- You can include IPV4 or IPV6 addresses or both.
- Domain can start with http, https or no prefix at all but must end in n4no.org to be recognized.
- You can edit the post and DNS should update automatically after some time (as soon as the bot gets the notification and it starts to propagate)
- As long as the post exists the domain should remain active. If you change or lose your account the dns entry will end up being removed!
- ⚠️ This is a work in progress, it may not be stable or available all the time
Rules:
- Please don't use this for illegal stuff, you will be banned obviously.
- This is not guaranteed to be anonymous, subdomains and IP will be listed on the homepage and search page. The goal here is to make it easier to host your blog and such things easily, nothing more. So obviously if pointing a DNS entry to your home server puts you or others in danger, don't do it!
- I made this to help people but I am not a free speech absolutist, so if you are, please buy your own domain. I probably won't need to specify this once I add the list of authorized instances.
